start your summer prep

Did you know getting started with hair removal NOW will have you smooth for summer?
By doing either laser hair removal or waxing, the end goal is the same; bare skin.
Over time with consistency, the hair follicles essentially get tired of repairing themselves which creates
thinner hair, longer smooth times between visits & easier maintenance.
Not only will you see a major reduction in hair but your hair cycles
will be synced together.

You may ask, what is a hair cycle? The hair cycle is defined as a group of hair that has started
growing at the exact same time. All of our hairs are going through their life-stages at different
times! Our hairs are always growing, detaching from the growth bulb and then shedding. Your
hairs (all over the body) MUST be on different cycles because if they were on the same cycle,
you would be bald at certain points! (since they would all shed together).

During your waxing services, hairs are removed that are present and able to be waxed. These
hairs are not all in the same life cycle! But regardless of this, we “wipe the slate clean” by
removing all of them today. We are going to make these multiple hair cycles start their lives all
over at the same time, hence syncing the hair cycle to become one!

As for Laser Hair removal, the hair cycle gets affected in a different way. Laser beams highly
concentrated light into hair follicles. The pigment in the follicles absorb the light that in result
destroys the hair if that hair is in the active growth stage. Over the course of treatment, your hair
and the amount of it will change dramatically eventually becoming soft, thin and light. Hair can
completely disappear in some areas. This hair reduction is permanent!

Real Talk: Smoothing Out the Weird Waxing Questions You’re Too Afraid to Ask

1/5/2017

There are plenty of questions our new and returning clients are too embarrassed to ask. Here are just a few of the questions I have been asked in a shy manner but are very common (trust me, you aren’t alone):

Q: Can I still get waxed during my period?
A: You bet! The majority of our female clients come in for bikini waxes while on their period. If you’re comfortable with it, we are too! As long as you wear a tampon, you are good to go! You may just feel a little more sensitive while on your period so we suggest taking an Ibuprofen about 30 minutes before your wax, if you want to err on the side of caution.

Q: I’m a guy, do guys even wax?
A: Oh my gosh, yes! A good portion of our clientele is male so don’t be ashamed to come in and give it a try. So sit back, relax, and enjoy an ice cold beer.

Q: What if it has been awhile and I am really hairy?
A: The hairier the better! Your hair just needs to be at least 2 weeks grown out before you can get waxed. Any longer than that is a bonus for us because more of your hair is grown in and can be waxed. So, don’t worry about trimming anything beforehand, your Waxologist is happy do it if needed.

Q: But what if I am hairy in weird/abnormal places?
A: There is no such thing as a weird place to be hairy. Even if a specific spot isn’t on our menu we can wax it. There is no "normal" place to grow hair - it tends to grow everywhere which is why we’re here to wax it!

Q: Is it normal to get ingrown hairs?
A: Sadly, yes :( Ingrowns occur when the hair is trapped underneath the surface of the skin rather than breaking the surface. This causes bumps, redness, and sometimes itching. Some people are more prone to them but there is a solution! AND IT'S EASY: Exfoliatie!!! Exfoliating can be done manually with a dry brush, exfoliating glove, exfoliating towel, or with our custom chemical post-wax exfoliant: CARE Serum.

Q: Do I really have to be naked?
A: Welllll, the articles of clothing you keep on is totally dependent upon the service you receive. If we are waxing your face, you should kindly keep your pants on *eye roll* However, if you are receiving any bikini wax, we do ask that you drop your drawers. Cotton fabric covers are available to cover the area while you're waiting for your Waxer to come back in the room, but we do need to see the goods you wanna get waxed. The first two minutes you might feel a bit weird, but our Waxologists see these body parts all day long. They totally know how to make you feel completely at ease. It’s their job, afterall!

Q: Is it common for people to wax their butt cracks?
A: Heck yes! It is SO common! The majority of us grow hair on our butt crack and yes, girls do wax their booty cracks too. Gotta keep that tail feather super smooth. But it’s a very simple service to have done. You just pull your knees to your chest and it's over in seconds. This service is performed all day long, is completely normal and is the quickest way to become BFFs with your Waxologist!

Q: How long do I have to wait to have sex/work out/swim after getting a body wax?
A: We know you wanna flaunt your fresh wax as soon as you can but it is important not to partake in any activities that can cause you to sweat or get germs in your pores for at least 24 hours. This includes sex, working out, going to the beach and getting a tan. If you touch your smooth skin or sweat immediately post-wax, this can not only cause irritation but transmit bacteria into those open pores - this is what causes those littel breakouts. And nobody's got time for that!

How Short is TOO short?

Believe it or not, we see it quite often: clients coming in for their waxing with hair that is TOO SHORT!  Did you know the length of your hairs is the key component to a flawless wax?
Read on to let us help you determine the perfect length that will save time, money, and razorburn (ouch!).
Here are a few quick ways to check and see if your hair is ready for removal:
Hair should be about 1/4 – 1/2 inch long. A good way to test this is to see if your hair covers at least half to three-quarters of your pinky finger nail.
Hair should be the length of a grain of rice
If you can grab it, we can wax it
If you trim or shave, let hair grow approximately 2 weeks before getting waxed. Two weeks of growth is usually the minimum amount of time needed for the proper length of hair. We know you might be thinking- “UGH! That’s so long!”, but trust us, growing it out the FIRST time is definitely the worst. It gets better as you wax!
Please do NOT shave or trim the hair prior to your waxing, even if you feel it is too long. If the hair is shaved/trimmed too short, the wax will not be able to grab onto the hair and you will not be able to get waxed.
So, here in this blog is an example of hair that is TOO SHORT to get waxed!

Although this re-growth MAY look long enough to wax, it is best to let it grow about twice this length. If the hair is too short, like the picture above, the wax will not be able to grab onto it, resulting in left-over little hairs. That’s not a smooth wax!
Patience is a virtue when it comes to hair removal…but we promise the wax is worth the wait!! And in the end, you will thank yourself…and us 😉
